Grey storm clouds are overhead of a glass-like calm but dark lake. Black pines edge the far side of the water, with black grasses popping up in the middle. Black cattails and low water plants are in the forefront along the shore. A single spindly tree with bumps for the start of branches sticks up from the water into the air for about 6 feet.

A. Dawning

Dark murk grey

of yet another day

Impervious to

heart’s begging to

just

go away.

Hopelessness leeches on

and stays

and stays and

stays

defying

attempts

at attention distraction

chaos that curates

soul’s disarray

but no

satisfaction

Until one inexplicable

unexpected day…

A.

dawning

like a stretch of long yawning

Awake…
