The 24th Hour
The 24th Hour
Regardless of yesterday’s pain
Or the train wreck of today
The promise that sustains
remains
A way
24 hours due
The chance to do
you better
To vanish
yesterday’s hurts and fetters
Like the sun’s disappearing
day’s dew
In just another 24 hours
you have the power
to be a rejuved you
Always for you,
M.A. Hastings
Poetry Backstories
As my longer-time readers know, I sometimes post poems that I’ve written as part of a group called Verse Reps. The basic idea is for folks to just “show up” to write something everyday for a month, instead of waiting to be “inspired” to do so. The organizer sends a one-word prompt to everyone in the group on the first of the month in Substack. Then, each person writes a poem in any form and sends it back to Verse Reps in a direct message by 7pm EST that same day.
The leader publishes all the poems that have been submitted on the Verse Reps Substack address, and everyone gets to see everyone else’s take on the same word prompt. I wrote “The 24th Hour” for the word prompt “tomorrow”, back on October 21, 2025.
So why publish this particular poem today? March 1st will soon be upon us and will be the next session of 31 days of “showing up” to writing a poem with the Verse Reps group. I also needed a reminder that “tomorrow” is another day, full of newness and promise. Have a good one!
Thanks for reading today! If you like my work, please consider supporting it by sharing it with a friend or two, especially those poets out there who may need a little nudge to “show up” and write.
A big thank you to my paid subscribers for supporting the visual accessibility of M.A. Hastings Poetry. You are truly making a difference in my ability to provide my Substack writing in the real voice of Glad Klassen
